I think you can gain mmr with any hero as long as you play to win and you enjoy playing the hero. Try to play it for 100-150 games and see where you'll be
if you reach 70%-80% after you strt spamming it for some time its good
if not,dont bother
you probably will have lots of 1 hour games as e mber tho
i have been spamming ember wayback the 7.00 era, now 800+ games
in my opinion ember spirit good for that bracket, cause hes quite independent, so even your game goes bad you still can recover with the hero having boot travels, from 2k i got to 3k with ember
If you are way more skilled than most people in your games Ember could work more often than not. Ember does have the potential to outplay opponents quite easily with his abilities, especially lesser skilled ones.
If your opponents are similar skill Ember often times struggles (under 50% win rate hero globally).
Honestly I would love to be able to spam Ember he was my favorite hero for awhile, but the more I played him I began to realize his many limitations. When I am playing ranked I am always trying to draft the hero that I think will give me the highest chance to win vs what my opponents have, I find it very rare that Ember is that hero in my opinion.
My win rate with Ember started to drop significantly when I started picking him to practice more even when the enemy draft would make for a difficult game. I've just about given up on him now except the rare game he actually looks like the right pick, which is a shame as I find him easily one of the most fun heroes in the game.
ember is not that good to spam right now. what you should spam instead is CK or ursa. you will clamb really fast with those heros.
I think ember is very good early game against most of the mids and falls off in the mid game.. And has very slow push . But can do high ground defense for hours.

As others have mentioned, he's a great play making hero but struggles to push objectives. This is a major setback, you basically rely on your team to take objectives/rosh while you make space for them.

i met lots of ember in archon days. i counter them with lycan mid. get my helm of domi and start taking down towers, while ember still farming is Bot and Maelstorm, by that time i already killed roshan and ready for high ground push.
good to spam? no for me. zero pushing power and needs farm to get online.
ember most secured hero to carry divine rapiers. one of strongest lategamers in my opinion, and if enemy has too much disable can go magic build
One of the best heroes in terms of snowballing. He is kinda strange:
1. Decent laning, can do well vs most heroes & have decent kill potential.
2. After he gets like lvl 7 he is insanely strong. There are not many stronger heroes at that point.
3. Probably the strongest mid game hero - huge dmg, good survivability, ability to push out waves etc. His only downside is that he can't take towers well.
4. Around ~25min he fells back quite hard. He can't burst heroes fast anymore, and game is much harder for him, even with advantage.
5. Late game he owns again.
So basically for ember it's:
decent early, insane mid game, avg mid/late game, v. strong late game.
Personally I think you need a hero that is good at taking objectives (getting towers, rosh) in your team when you pick Ember.
Battlefury & physical build is kinda unplayable because it's too slow. Magic dmg is way better.
