draft is officially 70-75% of the game. every pro has confirmed that already. since matchmaking is balanced in terms of skill based on mmr , ofc the draft has a bigger impact on game. but even in unbalanced games , assuming a smurf is playing in a lower bracket , if he is allowed to pick later on and get the best hero for the given game he will jsut win much more easier tham picking first and ending up in a bad game for his hero , than depending in some other variances, like having feeders , ragers game ruiners in team he will actually loose some of those games. but if he has the right hero he might still be able to solo carry . this talking about pubs, cause in pros-scene, the draft impact its even more higher.
if you saw any game of the last major that lgd won, everything its decided in draft , bjs and kyle predicted almost everything that can go wrong based on draft, and how the game wil be played, in those levels a rly small mistake in draft will insta loose you the game.
Ya I hate that whenever I play good, it's always because my hero and my pick is good, not because i am a good player really. You don't feel like you are winning Dota 2 with your own strength, but you feel like you are only winning because the hero you are using is strong against their lineup or just generally strong on its own.
I couldn’t face reading most of this thread but a couple of years back som Cambridge studWants wrote a bot that could predict the result of pub games from the draft alone with >70% success. Was a bit lower for pro games but still pretty high.
Draft is so obviously the only important factor if you put 10 people of roughly equal skill into a game. The rest is simply random noise like misclicks/abandons etc.
The only way you could think otherwise is if you believe dota is a game of luck.
Look at it another way. Imagine those 10 equal skilled players playing a bunch of games where they randomly swapped some players between teams for each match. If you don’t think the strongest predictor or each match is the draft then you should find a different game to play because you clearly have no idea about dota.
Picking doesn't matter in LoL? I heard that in LoL only 30 or so heroes are viable and rest are trash and can't be even considered situational picks? LoL is even worse than Dota 2 I have heard, 90% picking and 10% playing, worser than Dota 2's 75% picking and 25% playing. I am just basing this from rumors I have heard about LoL, haven't played the game yet.
most of the times i feel i win with my own strength actually, example on this game
https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3818295206 i got countered by an earthshaker as a brood, but still be able to win by trying to do all kinds of stuffs which i forgot actually, match is 2months ago
and on this one
https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3786046477 i also got countered by es,but i gone too far deep when attacking so it makes me a easy target for echoslam,so i lost after 2-3 deaths
so ye,countering is good but there are ways you can deal with it. it's not when you get countered your game is done already
i realy just hope you won't get all negative on your solo ranked or when playing with friends or something after getting countered and being a real cancer,i hate those kind of ppl
this game is a war simulator,on some wars you are just on a disadvantage side
if you can't overturn that, you lost the war my friend. just think whatever can be done on that
I feel it's 50/50. Like if one team picks am doom terrorblade riki and sniper, would that team win agaisnt a well drafted team that plays like shit? Probably. But if one team is worse than another but they draft way better usually they win.

Go play LoL if you don't want to pick to strategize :)

If draftimg doesnt matter people woulnd sperg out about nit having mid/carry last pick and they would just instapicked them and yolo.
If you dont have a hero that can stop enemies cancerous pick (ilusuion fast clear or hard disable) you are done.
Who ever says dota is not about draft he is delusional. Whole meta revolves around drafting properly.
Draft does matter. it is not 75% of the game end of story.
