Rape mid lane and proceed to snowball. (Dont start at any other lane - safe lane/offlane viper sucks). U want to gank more than farm obviously cuz viper isnt a carry or a good pusher.
I start with wraith band, faerie fire, branch and 2 pooled tangoes.
U almost never make wand on this hero, he doesnt need it. Maybe against pa or zues or bb, otherwise no.
Item progression-> Aquilla - treads - dragon lance - yasha - (insert shadow blade here if needed, i dont make it unless i need silver edge to break passives) - manta - hurricane pike - butterfly - AC/satanic - BoTs - Deadulus/bloodthorn/mkb
Skill levels depend on enemy, but u want to start lane with nethertoxin. However, that means u wont hav the orb for the clash at first rune. Choose wisely.
Offlane is fine if they don't have tons of magic dmg and have a melee carry. Like vs spectre + 1 he is quite good. Last time I played him before all the picks were in and went off cus we had a drow and a lion + morph just destroyed me. Viper's squishy early if you can't kite.
I also think safelane is fine but you have to max nethertoxin and build a shitload of right click and take towers asap, like treads, aquila, yasha, butterfly, ac.
Isn't mek the build tho? Plus early manta on viper doesn't do much. I like getting hood and other aura items and play the tank role. Nether gives DMG, u have slow, so I feel like complementing corrosive skin with tankiness. Do understand I'm trash tier tho
I hate mek on viper, he has shit mana to use it. You need treads to tread swap if going mek and phase is really good on him in many cases. I dislike manta as well, illusions aren't very good, only get it if you need dispel otherwise casual yasha or s&y is better imo.
Only tip I can give is to chose ur first skillpoint depending on ur midlane matchup, if you're against a ranged mid always get nethertoxin since it helps u last hit (I cant remember if it works when denying), if you're against a melee just get ur orb and rekt him since the first minute.
Nothing wrong with mek on viper if that's the route you want to go but you got to hope the rest of your team are down for an early deathball and someone has built arcanes.
Personally I love his aghs - don't see the point of building him as a ranged right-clicking carry when there's others that do it better and he doesn't have a steroid or flash-farming ability to stop him from falling off.
I usually go hood now on viper. Sny is good but I prefer hybrid items that give durability and DMG. So ac, butter, sometimes even skadi. Aghs is nice but only once u have the man's IMO.
Not going Mek on Viper means you are damaged.

I played Viper in 7 matches on my other acc on lan party with friends and here are my two cents (I'm just below 3k)
I usually went treads+aquila into yasha and lance and then either Manta+Diffusal or Pike+SnY. Then some situational items like AC/Skadi/mjollnir etc
In last game I tried phases+aquila and desolator rush into silver edge+vlads and it was awesome, need to try it again
The thing with Mek is it should only be built if ur gonna have an early deathball push strategy. Otherwise viper doesn't have the Mana to support it. Manta on viper is trash the illusions do jack shit. If u want ms get sny. And if u don't buy an orb now... I mean skadi/deso/lifesteal shud be purchased unless they all r suboptimal choices. I dunno basically if u don't win as viper in then first 20 min ur fucked. But if u do u probably won unless ur whole team throws.
