you can just pick jug or spectre fb, it seems like youre in 4k+ so there should rarely ever be people that pick another carry after you picked spectre / jug. both of these heroes are quite easy to play and arent countered that easily
Well you can have a core lineup do fine as long as they are useful cores with utility and not just am's and spectres who need supports to babysit. Like one game the opposing team offlaned Sven + Wraith King and they kicked our asses.
Or like this, opposing team looks not that balanced, melee heavy, tons of cores right? Good lanes though as they can jungle lc, offlane timber so cores don't fight for farm. They kicked our butts.

Just keep shadowing your pick and hope no one over picks you or randoms a carry. Maybe once every five games or so this happens, but generally people seem to respect if I wish to carry safe lane on like medusa or spectre. The other thing is don't pick cores with hard counters, if you pick like jug, what's his big counter? He's a safe first pick. Then if some dickwad still picks AM and fights you for lane report his ass.
Another thing I've started doing during load is looking at my team's recent matches. If I see they all hard carry I'll just go support from the get go. People tend to pick what they've been picking and not switch roles. But you can tell who's going to mid and who's going to support from their match history. In those cases pick your carry early and they will fill in around you.
I tell them if they really wanna play a carry, get me a support.
sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
good luck with that

Because after 3 years of Dota I have never mastered it.
If you highlight a carry and place a marker on the safe lane a teammate will pick a carry and take it anyway.
If you instant pick carry you get a terrible core dominated lineup. My top heroes are full of supports not because I like playing support but because I pick last. How do you guys who spam carries do it? Teach me wise ones.
