New players allways have trouble understanding how this works and it's not strange.
Actually in my experience even the most hardcore Dota 2 nerds sometimes dont even know it.
There are many rules to take into account while talking about BACKDOORING (attacking buildings without creeps)
First rule is. You can ALLWAYS destroy buildings (unless they are Behind another building in a line) OR if the other team uses Glyph.
Having said that it can still be hard as the "backdoor protection" buildings get if there are no creeps Close to the Area around the building and or surounding buildings - gives buildings a HP REGEN that can be hard to OUTDPS.
Second rule is When you Come with creeps and the creeps DIE but youre still in the AREA there will be NO backdoorprotection.
Third rule is When creeps die there is a build in DELAY of 5 seconds untill the backdoor protection actually kicks back in.
Forth rule ( this is what most people dont know ) is When creeps die the 5 sec delay Dosnt actually start untill the CORPSE is gone.
and this can take upto 14 seconds.
This all addsup to 19 seconds delay where you can TP in and still attack buildings without them having Backdoorprotection=hpregen.
This explains the basics, hope this cleared things up for you.

The T4 towers are not enabling backdoor protection for the throne, they make it invulnerable.

What they are confused about is how the First rule works. "if something has something infront of it it cannot be hurt"
Cannot be hurt = invulnerability
Backdoor protection = Hp regen.
As Socram said Backdoorprotection and invulnerability are two seperate functions
The thrones DO infact have Backdoor protection.

backdoor protection is as simple as the name implies.
its protects your raxes from people who try to backdoor, breaking in without creeps.
If they follow your statement. Backdoor protection = Hp regen. Everyone will be a nature's prophet
So lets try "My theory" (obviously this is not my theory but a known fact ;P)
And see who the clown is.
Try lets say... Any hero (including furion).
And go and attack a;
Building OR a Tower OR the Throne. without creeps with you. See what happens.
Youre not only wrong at What backdoorprotection is.
But also in the way that youre under the impression that it only works on the raxes and only on furion :P So bascially to add up youre wrong in 3 ways.

Sir is right. Backdoor protection is definitely = HP regen. It does not mean invulnerability. Heroes like lycan with ac, deso necro 3 vlads can take down towers with backdoor protection. So there you go @MJ.
Invulnerability is like trying to take down raxes and throne when T3s and T4s are up respectively.

eh hp regen =/= backdoor protection.
otherwise tree using an armor to heal the tower would go under backdoor protection. which is not.
it's just so happen that backdoor protection triggers hp regen but they are not exclusive to eachother.

Hover over the tower or throne... when backdoor protection (regen) is active there is an icon, the same holds true for invulnerability.
Dominate a creep and hide it in the enemy base... keeps backdoor protection off.
Wisp tether and relocate a creep and you Travels into the enemy base = no backdoor.
Lots of fun ways to break it.

Sooo...just recently played a match, and an np just tped to our ancient and killed it. There was no regening of any sorts when i look at hp.
-no creeps within ramp (tier 3)
match ID: 1077416335 (jump to 1 hour into the game)

UPDATE: thanks sir, didnt know the specifics of the delay of when bd protection kicks in. funny ending to a game though.
