Actually, an American is anyone who is from the continent "the Americas". So a Brazillian is American, a Peruvian is American, a Mexican is American, and yes, also US citizens are ALSO American. Yes, they are from colonists of England, Spain, Portugal etc. "Real" Americans has been killed hundreads of years ago by these colonist nations.

The translation is American english. Also, we're headquartered in the US.

We are Americans because we live in "The United States of America." We shorten that to US or USA. No other country claims to be "American" because the only other Americas are continents and not a country. Canadians, Mexicans, Peruvians, Brazilians, Cubans, I can go on and on.
We can't afford the cost of replacing everything in our country with metric equivalents (road signs, for example) so it's going to be a while until we are fully metricized. Sorry about that. We do teach the metric system in schools and the metric system is used by scientists and doctors, so where it really matters, we've got it under control, don't worry.
Still, I don't believe either of those things really make you that mad. I think what really tickles your grumpybone is McDonalds, and you take out your anger on every American citizen you come across. Simple solution, don't eat it, problem solved, we can be friendly again yaaaaay!
