Video: We just launched our site that lets you find a coach as easily as you find a game of Dota [2:43] in General Discussion

A few weeks ago we started recruiting coaches for our Dota coaching site, https://dotacoach.org Today we are announcing that the site is live, and anybody can hire a coach.

To go with the launch, we made a short video to show how easy/quick it is to hire a coach. Our aim was to make it as easy to hire a coach as it is to find a game of Dota, and now that it’s ready we’d love to hear your feedback. Check out the video if you’re interested!

Let us know if you have any questions/comments/etc. Thanks!

whenever I see a private profile I don't want to open any links

      Trodlabundin

Your website is not available (connecting from Norway).

Also, why would we choose this instead of http://dotagym.com, dotabuff forum, Havoc, etc.

There's 500 supermarkets in your city. Make another one, and don't give any information about your shop.

What's the coaches mmr? Dota Profile? Yet again, why chose you over the already coaches there is? HELL EVEN PURGE! :)

        SalaciousCrome

Honestly this is a really well done site, I don't know how much coaching is still alive but really well done.

          Trodlabundin

Okay, you mentioned your guys mmr in the video, however it'd be nice of you to write a bit here first.

It looks very good, I'll give you that.

              >whenever I see a private profile I don't want to open any links
Sorry, we do this to protect the privacy of our coaches, since we have many of them on our friends list. I wish Steam let me make my profile public while making my friends private, but unfortunately they don't support that feature yet.

              >Your website is not available (connecting from Norway).
Yep, sorry about that. We were doing a deployment that caused a brief blip in connections. Should be fine now. Let me know if you still can't see it.

              >Also, why would we choose this instead of http://dotagym.com, dotabuff forum, Havoc, etc.
We've actually spoken with many of the existing/established coaches while building the site. We love what they're doing, and we think what we're building is actually complementary to what they're building. For example, as far as I'm aware our site is the first one where you can find a coach and be playing with them in minutes -- most other sites require you to contact a coach, talk back and forth a few times to figure out scheduling, etc. We all want to see coaching become more accessible in Dota, though.

              >Honestly this is a really well done site, I don't know how much coaching is still alive but really well done.
              Thanks! Really appreciate it.

Yeah we didn't want to spam too much info into the first post. Here's a cool graph of the distribution of our coahces MMR, if you're interested: https://dotacoach.org/coach/about

u shoud edit ur site link, not everbody has 10iq+

                Trodlabundin

Oh, I couldn't connect because you've typed a "." in the end of your link.

Well, now that's funny. Never happened to click a link that was misswrote.
I'm assuming this is the most professional looking coaching page/easy accessable I've yet to see. (Not seen many, dotagym, purge)

Is there really much activity in the coach section of dota?
I'd love to be coached by a 7k player so I can improve further in the 5k bracket faster, as I've been stuck at 5200 the last couple of weeks.

I might consider for fun, but not at the moment.
                  Good luck

                  jay@dotacoach.org

Ahh, I see. Fixed the link. Thanks for pointing that out :)

                    >Is there really much activity in the coach section of dota?
There is! We've had over 100 5k+ players sign up in just the first week of recruiting. Granted, not all of them were fit to be coaches, but for the most part we found they were great players who were also able to teach and explain Dota quite well. Part of the reason we built the site is that it seemed too difficult/time-consuming to find and set up a session with a coach. We think that there are a lot of people out there who want to get better at Dota, but they may not have explored coaching as an option yet. We're hoping that by making it much easier to find a coach, more people will be interested in coaching. I've noticed my skills improving markedly since we started conducting trial coaching sessions. I believe Pajama's MMR shot up by 400-500 after two weeks, although I'd need to check with him for the exact number. I haven't played any ranked games since I started receiving coaching, because I want to measure my MMR bump exactly, but I'm expecting it will be at least a few hundred. I can definitely tell that my decision making has improved immensely.

                    >I'd love to be coached by a 7k player so I can improve further in the 5k bracket faster, as I've been stuck at 5200 the last couple of weeks.
We don't have too many coaches who are at a high enough skill level to coach you (we'd require 6k+ for someone at your MMR), so if you come to the site and you get a red traffic light, feel free to shoot me an email (jay@dotacoach.org), and I can connect you with one of our 6k+ coaches directly.

                    Trodlabundin

                      Appreciate that a lot.

I probably phrased badly (English not my native language, got legit excuses on my side.)), but I meant if there are many customers, not if there were many signing up to coach for your page. :-)

                      jay@dotacoach.org

Ah, I see. For student interest, we've had about 50 students sign up to be notified once the site is live, which is fairly promising. The site only went live to the public two days ago, though, and today is the first day that we're really publicizing it, so that's what we're hoping to find out in the next few days :)

impressed with the site build and features thats nice!

hope this thing grow up and people stop feed

                                  Good luck!

                                    >tl;dr - Whats the reason of coaching high-skilled player, when he can analyze his own replays and mistakes on his own and you're want him to pay (ie) 30$ for each hour, so he can see his mistakes from other side of view?

Hey, good question. To clarify, it's currently $9.96/hr, not $30. But your question is still valid. I think if you're good enough that you can analyze your own replays just as well as a top-end/pro player could, then our service is probably not going to be that helpful for you. For the vast majority of Dota players, though, having a top-end player advising their game or watching a replay is a huge help.

I know it's like gonna be a anon point but do you have some links to any of your coaches? For examples I know sLam and Chris do coaching as well as fundamentals coaching from myself and people like to look at the successes of their coaches, sort of a proof of the pudding thing.

                                      Is this possible?

                                      PROTECTHIMFROMWHATHEWANTS

i was wondering about coaches links also

                                        jay@dotacoach.org

We don't have public profiles for coaches yet, but it's something we want to add soon (like in the next few weeks). We've personally conducted a trial coaching session with each coach who is approved to work on the site, so you can be reasonably confident that you're going to get a good coach. We'll probably make review scores etc. public eventually, but in an aggregate form (e.g. average for last 20 sessions or something); we want each individual review to be anonymous, so that students feel comfortable being perfectly honest.
