Keyboard and Mouse suggestion for pc games(such as Dota2) in General Discussion
MidOfPain

Planning to get a new set this coming holiday; Any suggestions as to what type of keyboard and mouse should a typical gamer like me should have-- regardless of the budget. It's better to hear the reason why you suggest it though as well.

I have your standard set of keyboard and mouse both logitech, as I was just wondering if you guys can suggest any more than that. I thought what I have is decent, but I find it stressful at times when I'm playing 4-6 hrs straight.

    Cheers!

I just got on board the "gaming peripherals" train. I got the Razer BlackWidow Chroma 2 weeks ago, and it's really sweet. From what I've heard, the Corsair k70 is one of the best keyboards out there. I heard that Razer has some durability issues, so you may want to stay away from Razer if you're overly concerned. I also got some Logitech G230 (headset) yesterday since my new computer didn't come with a mic. Seems pretty good. Mouse for me is Logitech M110...probably not going to upgrade it though.

Foreal though, the Chroma may be over the top, but just for fun, I use the lighted keys to separate skills/items/misc buttons haha.

And the wave is super cool, but not as practical.

Dude, that was sick. And thanks for the inputs man! It's all noted. Although I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to brand/models, so I'm like what the fuck is that whenever I hear razer BlackWidow and what not, lol!

However, I've asked a couple of friends as well. And they keep mentioning "Mechanical"-type of keyboard and some mentioned "traditional" type and all that term that I'm so lazy to search in google. Any ideas on that?..

So at the moment-- from what I can gather in your info-- Razer BlackWidow Chroma is the keyboard to have. And that having a decent mouse for you isn't really necessary.

You just want a mechanical keyboard. Razers are good but they tend to not last long- razer customer support is good though if you keep up with your product purchase and warranties. I use a steelseries 7G and it's outlasted its warranty. Filco brand mechanicals and the Corsair he mentioned are the top rated keyboards currently.

I'd recommend an 8-button Razer Naga MoBA edition to simplify item usage for your mouse- but mouse preferences vary wildly.

haha me neither man. I didn't know jack before 2 weeks ago, but I just did an hour or two of research before going to buy one. Now's the time to buy stuff...I was at best buy yesterday and there were a couple of things still on sale from Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

As far as mechanical keyboards go, I think the main difference is the springs in the keyboard. Im not sure. The main difference is that you can feel when each key stroke has been regestered. This is way better than my last laptop keyboard, and even notice the difference at work on my regular keyboard).

And I don't know enough about keyboards to say which is the best....you should probably get more opinions. And for me the regular mouse is fine. I think the keyboard is much more important than the mouse if you were to upgrade. Pretty sure getting a gaming mouse would help you as well. Althought I don't find the extra mouse buttons helpful....this is dota, not starcraft. We control one dude (most heroes) the entire game.

If u hv nvr used a gaming keyboard or.mouse before haha anything will feel better than what you have. I hv the 6gv2 red and sensei mouse for their simplicity. So far v satisfied with the products. But I don't know if you are looking for comfortability. Because the 6gv2 is pretty high no wrist rest etc. But I don't play for long hrs consecutively so it works for me.

And yeah avoid those.mouse with many extra buttons that get in the way of ur hands. The sensei have 4 extra but it doesn't get in the way of my hands and I disable them anyway so it's fine.

And if u play onhigh sensitivity it helps a lot. Like I used to hv a regular mouse on high sensitivity it jumps v often so it's hard to control.precisely but I got used to it after a while. Switching over to a gaming mouse I lowered the computer sensitivity settings and up the dpi of the gaming mouse and the cursor movements are smooth. I play on like 6k dpi.

The main advantage of peripherals labeled 'gaming' is macro keys, which are programmable keys, but you don't really need them for Dota. Other than that you just have a normal mechanical keyboard with a flashy design and coloured LEDs and gaming products are often overpriced, the best example being Razer. Razer products aren't bad but they have less value/money than other brands.

Also Razer recently started using a cheaper (chinese) alternative for Cherry MX switches - Kalih switches which some people complained about. I think that there's no point in paying more than needed. There are tons of other good brands.

                Bad Intentions

Trust me on this, buy the smallest gaming mouse u can find.

                  LLENN

that makes no sense, small mice can cause severe hand cramping^

my mouse at work is small and my hand hurts from using it during light officework, i cant imagine gaming on it

                    Androgynous

even though mechanical keyboards seem expensive, they last for a very long time in comparison to 'rubber-dome' keyboards that you're probably using right now, so that over time they'll likely end up cheaper, and on top of that you still get a better typing experience since they keys do not have be pressed all the way down, meaning you use less force to type.

a $120 mechanical keyboard for example, will last you longer than say, 3 $40 rubber-dome keyboards that will also get worse and less consistent as you use them for longer, which makes it hard for you to adjust when you eventually have to replace them, whereas with mechanical ones, you can choose what switch type you want (which affect the way keypresses feel or sound), so that even if you do have to buy a new keyboard, you can get the same keyswitch type which will make it feel almost identical to your old one.

                      not sure on mice though
