TA Vs viper in General Discussion

Just had a TA game against a viper at mid. Got crushed so hard. He just stood on my side of the high ground and attacked me whenever I got close. Is viper a direct counter to TA at mid? Is there anyway to win viper at mid with TA?

Use meld to dodge correctly and trade efficiently. Also try to hurt him with psi blades constantly. It's not an easy matchup but there are worse ones (eg Razor)

I'll copy out what I learnt from MoonMeander about the matchup.

        -Best block possible
-Go for every deny + psi blade harass with refraction
        -Last hit under tower
-RADIANT ONLY from 2:45 onwards, must go to stack hard camp every 45 seconds. At 5 minutes you kill the 4 stack and you should have the same farm and xp as viper.
-one last tip, save manta to dodge Viper ultimate, don't use it for illusions unless he's dead, if viper strike hits you you will be ****ed.

Also search simplydota ta vs viper on youtube for a video of the matchup from both sides.

i'll just add to what already has been said
try your best not to let him hit you, like moving in when he has to last hit and getting one more level in psi blades
keep your hp high at all times so that neurotoxin does not fuck you up, double tangos was sufficient for that when i laned against one but i might have been just luck and we both are bad cause eventually we ended up fighting on the ramp and he tried to kill me with viper strike but i outlasted him

some advice i got from dfist:

The viper ta lane is alot about refraction management and bottle crowing. You start the lane off drawing creep aggro to you as much as possible, you want to get in and out really quickly until level 2. See a lasthit/deny opening, go from uphill to downhill to get it, run back up and wait for the next chance. Once you get level 2 you just dance around with him and get him psi bladed as much as possible. The problem with viper is he just ferries dust at 6 and if you were zoned out at the beginning you're probably level 5 and just get orb walked down and feed continuously. You just need to practice laning as a whole to make sure those early level hiccups don't happen.

TA can actually just run at viper when they're both 6 if you had a decent lane and melt him down like she would an sf or a puck, it's just about specific windows and opportunities.

how do you run at viper when you're both level 6? i'd understand level 5, but at level 6 i think the fucking up strike fucks you up too much to try any kind of aggression

              @WagaGaming

A viper of equal skill-level as a TA should always win this matchup if there are no outside forces.

If there are gankers in the game, you can easily win it as a TA, but you need to rely on them. Max meld with 1 point in refraction 1 psiblades.

Remember that any time he orbwalks you, you can disjoint him by meld-walking one hit (meld and instantly run, dont stop at all).
You´re also pretty evenly matched at level 1, so try and make the most out of that, pull the creeps closer to your tower by attacking him and backing repeatedly.

And if it doesnt work out. Remember, he's a lanewinner ONLY. TA is a godly midgamer, try and play around the deathball push (if they play properly, it will be hard) by splitpushing a lot and farming junglecamps. Even ancients and golems can now be psi-bladed which is a nice buff to TA!

That's all the hints I have, afterall, you´re not meant to win this lane, but if you do, the game is probably yours for sure.

sounds like generic "how do I win against life stealer with pudge" to me

                  jo~

u can bait a viper strike with your meld or something
probably depends on his skill allocation too

As soon as 2 creepwaves meet A+click on Viper and make 3 melee kill your ranged creep, so they lane pushes in your favour. He will orbwalk you to death if the equillibrium is even.

From my experience its ultra hard to play against viper and imo he is the strongest counyer to ta, i never pick ta against him , i matched ta vs viper before and won mid i got a kill cuz my supports ganked mid then a sec kill i dodged his ulti with meld but i still lost the game , harrasing him with psi will remove ur refraction , 1 q from him will remove ur refraction his ulti make u useless since u depend on physical attacks , even when u get bkb the slow works on u , imo he is a direct counter to ta, if u got matched against him eather swap lane if u can or play safely u can kill him with a haste , or a dd if he is not 6 yet ... u cant dive him like the rest cuz ur refraction wont help u , play safe and ask for gank but still it will be really hard for u to win the game i played against a viper 2 times as i remember and lost both 1 he was safe lane and i snow balled but he made me useless and sec he was mid i got 2 kills but still he makes ta useless... thats from my experience:)

Razor and viper dude. They give you a hard time when matched up agains them. Never got matched as ta against a viper but i would go for psi blades max for that match up to harrash that dude from far. Also woudnt go in for trades unless i have to because ta will always lose that exchange. Manta or dodge with w will work to its poison as well but if he has dust and good players will have that you will have a hard time dealing with that annoying flying dragonish dude.

jakiro lesh, any hero that can burn that refraction fast is good vs ta.

lesh is shit vs ta . He's squishy and slow and his stun is easy to dodge. Just max meld and 3 shot him at 7.
