HOW TO REVIVE YOUR DEAD GRAPHICS CARD back to life With The Oven trick!! (WORKED+ Step By Step Tutorial ) in General Discussion
PROTECTHIMFROMWHATHEWANTS

Many of you u may know about this Trick But i Forced to Try it also because it was my last option since warranty (2years) ended.

So Heres the story and My Tutorial How to do it:

i used to overclock this card after passed 2 years stock.. with max 65 C at 1000/4400 but i guess these guys working on AMD had another plan-.-
i was playing dayz and suddenly screen became black and was still ON...*** i had to restart my pc.. and suddenly all screen was full of artifacts i couldnt even seen anything on bios..
i tried put again vga cable and clean it from dust but.. same thing again! i knew it was not completely dead but at this time i cant afford money for a new one and i just said YOLO LETS DO THIS.

    TUTORIAL STEP BY STEP:

    1) remove cooler from card and clean both card/cooler from old ( and fail thermal paste ) and dust
    2) put aluminum foil and cover any plastic surface on the card including front vga and hdmi ( u can cover as much as u can if ur not sure)
    3) take a " cookie sheet " and cover its surface with aluminum foil
    4) make 4 balls from aluminum foil to create a base for ur card to stand in without touching the bottom so the heat can go everywhere ( GPU Must be Faced UP )
    5) preheat the oven for 6-7 minutes at 200C
6)put the cookie sheet with ur gfx standing on the 4 balls of aluminum foil in the oven for 9 Minutes ( i used timewatch in my case )
    7) at 9 min just turn off the oven and wait for 2 minutes
8)after 2 minutes have passed open up the oven door and wait for 15 minutes to stabilize the drop on Heat correctly and smoorh:)
    9) now take the sheet with the card to a normal temperature room and wait till its completely cool ( 20 mins for me)
    10) now go add your new thermal paste on ur baked :DDD gpu and put again the cooler and......Connect it again on your Pc!
    11) Windows boots again like fresh!! even better temps ( because of new thermal paste and a complete cleaning u made before)

    12) I Suggest trying this after warranty is gone.. so u havent anything to lose...ITS WORTH THE SHOT!!!! im gonna be doing this every time i have a similar problem !!

    Thanks and have Fun Baking:D

I have always wondered does that thing do, ever since i read it on internet.

Seems it works. Nicely done bro.

From what I understand it basically reflows or "reballs" the solder. Sometimes with age the solder dries and the joints then become brittle and break and this causes the card to no longer work. By baking your graphics card you allow the solder to melt and flow to where it should be thereby repairing the damage.

          Thanks dude!

exactly, simply by heating and making solder liquid then going back ( what the heck ), you get a fresh new life.

Well enjoy your pc, i have to play on this uber shit pc :/

            PROTECTHIMFROMWHATHEWANTS

the air flow in your case is bad and increases your temperature by 10ish

                      PROTECTHIMFROMWHATHEWANTS

well if u have any advice i appreciate it!

hmm will this make a difference? i will try it xD

                            PhD_in_everything

Dunno, maybe, for me it did a bit, but i have stone age pc, which doesn't require a lot of ventilation probably, so it might make a difference.

You can try, nothing can go bad. I hope so :P

                                            Dire Wolf

It's cool that it worked I wouldn't recommend it (unless you can use someone else's oven), there's a lot of chemicals on that gpu you don't want getting released into a space you cook food in. A new oven is a lot more expensive than a new gpu. My gtx 460 died after 4 years and I checked into this trick but a new r9 270 was only $140 anyway, good time to upgrade.

                                                depends...
