Idk, I think it's pretty dangerous to hold on to an item whenever you're dealing with one that has an unjustified high price tag.
Actually I wonder, who actually pays $300 for that rainmaker other than market manipulation/investment purposes?

Same like dragonclaw hooks ($2xx on steam market).
Sure, an item might be rare but the price should not go up unless there's a high demand for it. How is the look/prestige of a dragonclaw hook worth $2xx for a user or collector? Scorching talon ($20, but not rare) looks way better than it in my opinion.
A dragonclaw hook buyer is probably buying it with the confidence that price will not dip to $80 the next day. And how is that done? It's by creating the perceived notion or view that DC hooks is worth the price tag and will not drop in price in the first place.
But it's a game by all the rich people, they set the price high and put it up there. But they have been pretty successful since people are joining in and taking over the baton to push the price up further & further.

I don't foresee the DC hook bubble bursting though, I can't give a good example for it.
But I feel what the buyers are doing is like they're operating on the promise of a higher return after a period of holding time (but not backed by a central bank or any authorities), if one day people start losing confidence in the holding value of the item then it could very well crash. But the baton game is going strong for DC hooks.

I'll say play the game at your own risk. If you think that the price is unjustified for the item then I think you should just exit as soon as you have made a hefty profit. If you think the price is justified or that the baton game may continue further, hold.

Personally I only like holding on to arcanas as currency because they're sold for $34.99 in dota 2 store and that gives it a very strong backing for the price to hold at that range. Special items like diretide platinum/golden roshans or good looking unusual couriers with nice ethereal/prismatic gems are fine as well, since they are truly unique collectors' items and look extremely nice.
I don't like the idea of holding on to a highly unjustificed high value item that have its price decided by greedy people trying to profit from it.

It's just my humble opinion, I could be wrong and the prices are justified & accepted by the masses.

                      Sell it.

                      Dipshit

Jumped $100 in 2 days...I'd go for the sale before it crashes back down.

As for it being "unjustifiable", it's a genuine. More can not be acquired.

                          Man. I'd sell it too.

@Dipshit There are lots of other genuine items eg. from TI3 / TI4 that "more cannot be acquired too". Eg. Microplush shitty wizard couriers, perfect world server couriers like genuine zombie hopper but their prices have not been played around with.
