If you are an extremely bad player you won't notice the things you are doing wrong.
I still don't think that watching pro games will help that much, but it might give you and inside of how each role in the game should be played.

I used to watch a lot of my replays in dota 1 days, mostly because I was checking for MH and reported it if I found something. That is when you can see how retarded your actions in the game might be.

That is why I think dotabuff and similar tracking sites are really good to see what you did wrong and how to improve.
For example I thought that necronomicon and aghs were OP on NP. Some might say it is situational, but I say they are shit on that hero.

Not watching your games and not tracking your stats will leave you in a bias that you are extremely good and are only losing games because of bad teammates.

If you are extremely bad at one hero, don't watch your replay but instead watch a good player on that hero and see how he is playing him in case of positioning/items buying/last hitting/rotations on the map.
It might be even better to watch different players on the same hero and try to detect patterns in their play style.

Watching those games doesn't mean that you will become better, it can only give you an idea of how to play the hero effectively.
For example you can watch Sing Sing play Kunkka and you can still suck after you have watched 20 games even tho he is great on that hero.

watching sin2x's replays for improvement is a nonsense

Thats not true bro, whenever i watch my replay i can easily spot my mistake that im not aware of when i play.

I literally climbed from 4.6k to 5.4k in like 2-3weeks just by watching miracle on og YouTube channel

If I watch my own replay I just think "Jesus christ I'm fucking aweful"but I do learn :)

watching sin2x's replays for improvement is a nonsense

sing often talks about what hes doing or why hes doing it

                    sisyphus

just think about all the mistakes that you can see pro players make when they're streaming and then multiply that by a few orders of magnitude when looking at your own play

i watch replay to see peoples perspective on why they did certain things

WAtching replays is good for macrogame understanding

you watch a pro game or a pro player playing a pub, then you watch yourself in the same role!

Ez to realize how much you suck at the game and what makes it so the other guy makes it through while you don't. You practice that shit over and over and ez wins. Repeat and keep repeating with focus on other shit

                            Dire Wolf

That's not true at all, it's especially hard to notice how many last hits you miss during the game. All you can do is go oh man minute 10 and I only have 50 cs, how the fuck did I miss all those? Then when you watch the replay you'll see, oh a missed timing here, and there I was hero chasing and missed a bunch for no reason etc.

Another thing very very easy to spot in a replay is your lack of awareness. If you get ganked then go watch the replay and it usually becomes super obvious you're getting ganked, either cus it shows on map, teammates call it or you can just see hero missing from lane for an extended period of time. Knowing to look for that stuff next time makes you better.

If you truly are not competent enough to spot your own mistakes then it's true. Most people are not that incompetent. The statement has a flawed assumption. Most people can spot their own mistakes, however someone more skilled than you can point out mistakes you aren't aware of.

I would rephrase it this way:
If you watch your own replays and think everything you did was great and there was no way you could have done anything better, then you need someone else to review it because you aren't competent enough to see your own mistakes. This is especially true if you were losing.

                                H^

No because there's also people like me that couldn't care less and that's why I never ever watch replays of my own games.

                                  TheMaverick427

Its easy to spot mistakes when watching your replays. Even the most incompetent person will be able to find something they did wrong while watching a game. If you don't spot any mistakes then its likely because you're so full of yourself and convinced that you are a good player that you're blind to your own mistakes.

On the other hand it is still useful to have a better player review your games. They will be able to spot things that you might not even know are mistakes. (For example in the rare occasion I do see people pulling the wave in my pubs they usually only do a single pull, which doesn't kill off the whole creepwave. This causes some of the creeps to survive and join the next wave, pushing out the lane. They don't realise this is a mistake because they just think "pulling is good" and don't know that pulling has to be done right otherwise its actually not good) Things like that will be spotted by a better player while you don't even realise that what you're doing is wrong.

We just released an updated hero and facet statistics page featuring more data and advanced filters. Oh, and it supports Turbo!
