Not the greatest hero right now but his situation in the offlane looks fine to me tbh. If you want some armor you can get an early ring of protection, you can devour a creep like ogre frostmage / wildwing ripper, or you can get a satyr for hp regen. You can secure the ranged creep or the catapult for yourself if devour is off cd and you don't want to replace your abilities. You have decent kill potential with scorched earth, infernal blade and some nukes or disables from creeps. When it comes to items, you just get whatever your team needs. Doesn't seem so tragic.
He was an absolutely powerful core before Ti4 era with a very high positive win rate. Then he got nerfed heavily in almost every aspect. Nowadays he is picked by the pros as a niche support to shutdown an important enemy core like timbersaw during team fight.
As a jungler ur usually position 4, go something like tranq midas blink or tranq blink, and as for ganking, eat a creep dude, take smth like mud golem rock or smth, also scorched earth deals retarded dmg. Imo his biggest problem is as a pos 4 jungler he is very greedy and as an offlaner he is very weak to certain heroes. He actually can bully certain lanes, but after the tranqs change its even worse. Usually some lanes r weak and dont have much physical dmg, so u just scorched earth the enemy carry out of lane. For offlaning i think u go pms to help with ur low armor. Infernal blade value point early is good at harassing melee carries only, ranged just stay away. I think with the change to early levels of devour costing less mana u may just not skill it past 2. The item imo is blink, just do something like blink doom net/rock into scorched earth and infernal blade, and run em down.
I don't mean this for balance but I think his play style could be improved if the mana cost of consumed abilities was reduced so he could use them to gank more easily early game. Would make him a more multi-dimensional character. He'd have to be nerfed elsewhere there.
Why tranqs now that they have no armor? He doesn't need the hp regen that badly and I want to click stuff in lane.

you want to make doom a legit offlaner? Give him some armor, a little more mana and retweek the SE.
Decrease the Downtime of SE and retweek the numbers if you must.
I played him a couple of days ago. We won but I really don't feel like I contributed anything useful. I got an urn because it seemed like a good idea now that it gives armour but other then that no item seemed to be attractive.
He's definitely slightly harder to kill in lane thanks to the SE buff but then you cant go back to lane for 30 seconds anyway because they'll kill you when its on CD. His ult does literally nothing at all and the cast animation is so long that they can usually cast a round of spells while you're trying to DOOM them. You can't cast infernal blade because your base attack time is so slow and you have no agility gain. If someone clicks you, you die since you have no armour. This hero just has so many issues which is a result of the 20-something nerfs he got because people found him annoying to play against.

hes a decent greedy position 4 when your team is facing spammers like zeus or storm. wouldnt pick him in ranked tho
I left it at 2-3 and would start maxing infernal blade after scorched earth cus blade actually deals good dmg.
It would be nice if devour had two buttons, like pucks orb does or something, one to absorb abilities and one to just devour. I find myself not devouring jungle creeps a lot cus I want to keep that ogre frost armor or wolf dmg and it costs doom a lot of gold. That's also why I never took the 80g on devour talent cus I wouldn't use it every time off cd.
Anyway he'd be such an easy hero to fix, bat back to 1.8, +2 starting armor, do that devour change, then he'd be good and not op either.

Seems terrible, I tried to win with him for the daily quest and lost 5 games. I've been losing a lot lately so not too far off normal but hey.
So here's my thoughts on why he sucks so badly right now. He has no lane. He doesn't have any armor and can't offlane, scorched earth is way too long of a cd to keep him alive there. You can get stout/pms and a basilius I guess, but you'll have no gold outside devour. He can't harass anyone. His infernal blade would be nice for harass but you can't level it early over scorched earth and devour.
Jungle he farms too slow. In jungle you're pretty much forced into vlads to sustain. I guess you could get hp regen items only like mek or hotd, plus some mana regen and be ok with scorched earth. If you're lane then it opens up a lot more possibilities cus idk if vlads is core. But you can't pull an LC or axe and rush blink and go gank lanes. You will have to walk into lanes with vlads and phase/tranqs at 6 to doom people and then rely on your team to stun/slow them.
Safe lane, actually would be the best lane for him, but his bat is so shitty he cannot realistically carry. Being able to devour wolfs or ancient dragons or the dinosaur thing for dmg buffs or cleave late means he has scaling, and devour is like a built in midas for farming, but dmg items on him are just so bad cus his bat is so bad.
Mid same issues as offlane, he will get harassed out so easily.
His main skill doom got overnerfed without enough to compensate for it. I think he really needs his bat lowered to 1.8, and 2 starting armor. Would go a long way.
But anyway, how would you build him? Let's say jungle cus it's probably the most realistic lane even if he still sucks. There's basically two ways to build doom, all auras/utility or as a pseudo carry. Or go trolly radiance builds.
I'm kind of liking the aura utility build more. I like drums on him now, vlads, arcanes, blink, mek -> greaves. Then shivas/aghs/refresher/halberd/solar crest/ac for team. Not sure if he should go crimson guard ever or lotus.
For right clicker build I guess it's vlads, phase, silver edge, halberd, ac, heart?
